Marriage

First of all, Congratulations! Your wedding ceremony is going to be one of the most important days of your life, and we at St Mary's want to make sure that it will be as lovely as you hope. We will strive to make the arrangements as easy as possible.

The following information should answer many of your questions. Needless to say, the clergy will help in every way possible to give advice and counsel based on extensive experience. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the rector.

INTRODUCTION:

Your wedding is very personal because it solemnizes a relationship between you and someone you love. Since your wedding is going to take place in the Church, there will be customs and traditions which you will be asked to follow. This pamphlet will not answer all the questions you may have about your wedding but it will describe the customs and traditions of this parish. All the people with whom you will be working at the church will do everything they can to make this a day you will always remember.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

The Church comfortably seats about 215 people. Furthermore, chairs can be added in the nave when necessary. If you are expecting a medium to small crowd we suggest having the wedding in the "Quire" of the main church - with 15-20 guests sitting in the choir stalls. The church is air-conditioned.

If you have been previously married: a judgment by the bishop is required for remarriage in the Church. Our policy at St Mary's is that if "new spouse to be" was the cause of the divorce, then we cannot perform the wedding. However, few cases are that "black and white". The New Testament does allow for divorce in some cases, therefore the couple must meet with the Rector to determine whether such criteria apply. We assure you that we will be understanding and do everything in our power to help you. If approval is given you must supply the Rector with a copy of your Decree Absolute ("Divorce Papers").
